Penguins - toddlers

I just wanted to do something I haven't done for a while. I don't do this theme much because most of the books about penguins are much too long.

I know a chicken with shakers
Penguin's lament with shakers
What a miricle

Early Head Start - last one

Early Head Start is leaving our area and heading to another Libraries service area so this was most likely my last outreach to them.

It went well. I anticipated craziness and it wasn't really.

Bath bombs for kids

I did a bath bomb program because it is christmas. I found a recipe that didn't use inedibles so littles could come but they didn't.

It was a lot of work for 7 kids.

Not sure I want to do it again.

Maybe next year.

Just found out that Early Head Start is moving to another area next year. I will be doing something else I guess.

Toddler Farm Animals

Crazy crazy. Kids were all over the place. Very similar to yesterday's preschool storytime. Not as many rude parents but at least one.

I know a chicken with shakers - the girl who wanted a red egg pouted the whole time, I ignored her.

Old MacDonald with puppets

I had such plans! The kids in the back went nuts for the puppets and they got closer and closer and when one of them touched a puppet I put them away. Couldn't see doing the story with puppets after that.

Oh well.

Trunk or Treat

Amazing! 1200 cars about twice that number of kids.

We did a pirate ship. I made a pirate jacket. It was great!

Next year, bring chairs...do a dry run with decorations...more staff? Make sure we have Deale on something not just AACPL

Early Head Start - Books

Oh my goodness. 5 toddlers and 6 babies. I am exhausted. My first book was to the tune of a screaming 1 year old. A child couldn't get enough of the flannel board (of course) and the song cube was a dud. They couldn't figure out what I was doing. I did the jbrary hello and goodbye and it was good.

Hands are for clapping

Gotta rain if you want a rainbow with scarves
1 verse of Rainbow Connection on my uke

Toddlers - Shoes and Socks

Much smaller group today. Kinda a relief.

Books:
One Two That's my shoe by Murray
 - this book is very short and just a few words. Perfect for this group of under 2s.

Pete the Cat I love my White Shoes by Litwin and Dean
-The music kept their interest but there was little interaction with the book.

Songs:
The more we get together
Hands are for clapping - I think this one will work well after the first story so they don't get up and jumping right away. I think I will keep it.
Jumping and Counting
Runaway shoes by Caspar Baby Pants with shakers (love it!)
What a miracle

Flannel:
Socks in the washer. I kept one of each pair and had them pull a sock out of the box (washer). Then they were supposed to match them to the sock on the flannel board. Some got it pretty well, others clueless. Used up a lot of time, so it was good.

Had another book I wanted to use but didn't have attention - One shoe Two Shoes by Hart

Did signs for socks and shoes.

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

County Fair - toddlers

Books:
Minerva Louis goes to the fair by Stoeke
Cows to the Rescue by Himmelman

Flannel

Jumping and counting
What a miracle

This one went pretty well. I had a large crowd for us. (21 kids). The kids are skewing very young at the moment. Most are under 2 so more than 2 books doesn't work. An interactive book works best.

Toddler time - Shoes and Socks

Just so I can remember what I want to do
This is What My Feet Can Do! (do you know the muffin man)

This is what my feet can do, feet can do, feet can do.

Can you do it too?
Let your feet go hop, hop, hop; hop, hop, hop; hop, hop, hop
Let your feet go hop, hop, hop
All around the room.
Make your feet go jump, jump, jump
Make your feet go jump, jump, jump
All around the room.
Can your feet go tiptoeing, tiptoeing, tiptoeing
Can your feet go tiptoeing
All around the room
Now your feet can sit right down,
Now your feet can sit right down,
Quietly, please.

Acoustic Song Circle

I had an idea to do this where I would have very loose criteria and people would come and we would play music.

After committing I realized it needed some structure. I did a powerpoint with 11 songs and waited to see who would show up.

I got 5 adults. 1 just sung, 2 guitars, and one ukulele.

Went well. Everyone liked my songs. Next month they will bring songs and I will copy them for everyone. I will also do a power point to be sure there are enough songs. I might do the powerpoint portrait instead of landscape.

Whoo!

Book:

Sheep - Toddlers

Such a difference from last week!

The first book did not go well. Once child was screaming through most and a couple were running around and making noise. Did sign language for sheep.

So after the second book, which went better because the screamer left, I just did songs. The fingerplay in particular did not get any watchers. Went to the Stretchy band because it was a small group and they liked that. I forgot my CD with what a miracle so we did If you're happy and you know it.

Jungle Animals with Early headstart and Headstart

I began my day with Early Head Start. They had me do it in the baby room this time and there were more babies than there have been this session.

So...I turned it into a baby storytime. Lots of music and just a couple of quick books. Both had movement.

Books:

If you're happy and you know it - Jungle edition by Warhola
Spunky Little Monkey by Won

The kids didn't really want to get up so Spunky Little Monkey didn't work too well. The other was fine.

Songs:
The animals in the jungle say...

The more we get together

The Lion Sleeps Tonight with uke and shakers

Shake your sillies out with shakers

Alabama, Mississippi

May there always be sunshine - with uke

For Headstart, I did different stories to keep their attention

They seemed to like the stories

Songs were the same but didn't do Alabama, The animals in the jungle, or Shake your sillies

Then I did Old Macdonald had a farm in the jungle with puppets. After that they got a little crazy so we were done.

The group was smallish but happy.
